BARE Facts

I love showers! I guess it’s because they are “potential“! I stand in the shower and think of ALL the things I’ll do… knowing full well it’s impossible to do them right at that moment because I’m naked and wet and already doing something else: TAKING A SHOWER! While standing in the shower, I’m (almost) writing that letter, cleaning out that desk drawer, applying for that job, telling off that jerk and hanging up the phone… all while standing in the shower! Not really putting off all those things… just otherwise preoccupied at the moment.

I sat down in the shower once… just as an experiment (haven’t stood up to take a bath yet… a bit too avant-garde?!). It was actually a bi-cleansing experience: I put the plug in so the tub filled as the shower spilled… warming my lower body while hitting my topside. It was a combination of relaxing and exhilarating… somewhat confusing because baths are taken in the past tense… REFLECTION-MODE… whereby showers are taken in the future tense… MOTIVATION-MODE. Does it fuck you up to take a shower at night and a bath in the morning?! It seems like it should and would!… but I haven’t taken a bath since the 1960’s because I really prefer showers… I guess I’m partial to “potential”, huh?!

Decisions… Decisions (performed at BENT Showcase 11/16/12 Seattle)

Are you a somebody or a nobody?

Does an answer come to mind?

Is one elevated to a pedestal

While the other is left behind?

Are you a somebody or a nobody?

Is it hard to tell?

Does one ascend to Heaven?

Does one plummet to Hell?

Are you a somebody or a nobody?

Does the question ever arise?

One life lived with virtue

Another fraught with lies

Are you a somebody or a nobody?

How do you feel about it?

Sure of your identity

Or do you tend to doubt it?

Will a single word

Cause you to run & hide?

Or will you take direction

From who you are inside?

We need no definition

To encourage us to shine

For I will be YOUR somebody

And invite you to be MINE!

The Mouse in the House Comes Out (written & performed in Oct 1993)

A squeak of a voice

Arose from my kitchen

Its eyes wide open

Nose; it was twitchin’

There near the floor

To the left of the door

Was an entrance… or exit

I kneeled down to check it

And yes, from inside

Came the squeak of a noise

And in tiny mouse words

Came a tiny mouse voice

“Hello I live here

I work… I dream

But sometimes the sight of me

Makes people SCREAM!

I mind my own business

I don’t curse or smell

With a tail behind me

AND one to tell

A life to lead

A myth to dispel

Some call me a rodent

A nuisance

A pest

But I’m just a mouse

No more

No less

Trying to be happy

Doing my best

So today I’m speaking up

And it’s about time

I have nothing to hide

I’ve committed no crime

So today I’m speaking up

Hear my closet door slam?

I’m out in the open

I am gay! Gay I am!

Cheeze Whiz! That felt good!

So I’ll say it again

I’m out in the open

I am gay! Gay I am!

Soap Box Derby

It’s true, I do

Pontificate

While out to lunch

Or on a date

I spew forth conjecture

Spouting a lecture

Something to say

Night and day

Repugnant or relevant

I feel intelligent

Or, perhaps self-indulgent

None-the-less

It’s true, I do

Pontificate

Soliloquies rule

My one-sided debate

It matters not my audience

A bevy of scholars, or one so… dense

Swirling mental cavalcades

Inspires verbal escapades!

To keep my opinions

Stored on a shelf

Would only disappoint myself

I don’t think first

Nor bite my tongue

Speak up speak out

My spring unsprung

“Talk is cheap” ?

You fail to see

How it pays

Dividends to me

If you toss a pebble into my pond

Be prepared! I WILL respond!

Party of ONE

I don’t chit

I don’t chat

I don’t talk small about this & that

I don’t tread water

In the shallow end

I’d rather jump

And dive right in

“How do you do?”

How do I do WHAT?

Or even WHO?!

Then perhaps a conversation

Could ensue

I’ll try not to pry

Or leave you flat

But please don’t ask

For chit or chat!

Oh! Solo Me? Oh!

There are “moments of being”, which are universal truths, when “IT” comes out of context, transcends the moment, to become immortal…whereby “IT” stays with me…within my memory, yet also exists without me by standing

On its own.

This is exhilarating because “IT” is the feeling when time no longer (linearly) exists…when I just AM…I BE!

When am I foreground?

When am I background?

When am I paying attention?

When is attention being paid to me?

When am I subject?

When am I object?

Instances are unsubstantiated: No witnesses, no photographs, no wiretaps, no hidden video!

Only I can prove mine to me, see what I saw, saw what I see.

This LIFE SENTENCE is only and all I’ve been given; sometimes passive, sometimes active.

I am free to supply any adjectives and adverbs…even a dangling participle if I dare…to.

But above and beyond all else

As I enter into or hastily exit various ongoing paragraphs as necessary,

I will continue

Must continue

To write MY LIFE SENTENCE

To the best of my ability until, ultimately,

I run out of (TH)INK

Say When

I have a theory

You may not agree

But “deja vu”

Is really predictability.

The person or event

That you now feel was THEN

Was actually not before

Nor where you thought you’d been.

The past is the foretelling

Of what will happen hence

So your deja vu

Is really future tense!

Tid Bits

I pray to God that there IS one!

…so I am not alone…to forgive myself.

A train of thought has no caboose

So I’ll ride this rail…fast & loose!

Names are merely “labels”…

Useful in referring

Yet useless in relating!
